What to Expect

Whether you’re a skeptic, you’re new to Christianity, or you’ve been walking with the Lord for years, we hope to see you this Sunday! You could summarize our Lord’s Day philosophy as “Sunday is for feasting.”

That is, Sundays are for celebrating. We gather to feast on God’s Word, feed on Christ, feast on good food, and enjoy great fellowship and friendships. Sunday is when we come together to be nourished by God’s Spirit, as he applies his Word to our hearts. It’s when he lifts our gaze to heaven. It’s when we bring our sorrows to our Heavenly Father and are reminded of his love. We don’t gather in spite of our sins and struggles; we gather because of them and the assurance of God’s grace.

We hope to see you this Sunday at 10am.

Our Morning Service

Our morning service begins at 10am and typically lasts about 90 minutes. We meet at the Town Center Building (12 Mudge Way, Bedford, MA 01730) and childcare is available for children 0-6 years.

What should I wear?

You’ll find some people dress up (dresses or slacks) and others don’t (t-shirts, jeans, or shorts). Feel free to wear whatever you want that honors the Lord. God is more concerned with your heart than with your clothing!

What is service like?

Our services are marked by expository preaching, deliberate prayer, and congregational singing.

Expository preaching: Our normal practice is to preach expositionally through Scripture, where the main point of the passage is the main point of the sermon. This is because we believe that it is God’s word that gives life, not our clever ideas or pet interests. So we pay careful attention to the Bible and how it applies to our life.

Deliberate Prayer: As a church, we take time in every service to praise God for who he is, reveling in the beauty and glory of our Triune God. We confess our sins to him, as the light of the gospel shines brilliantly against the dark backdrop of our sin. And we confidently ask for our Father’s help, praying not only for our own congregation, but also for Christians, churches and countries across the globe.

Congregational Singing: We believe it is the great joy and privilege of Christians to respond to God’s salvation in song. In singing, we are simply ascribing to God the glory that he is due. Some of our songs will be fast, others slower, some of them older, while others more recent. In this, we try to cover the whole range of human emotion and experience. And rather than the musicians putting on a show or “production”, they accompany and assist the congregation’s voice. In short, when it comes to music, singing is the main thing. And when it comes to singing, the congregation is the main instrument.

Our Evening Prayer Service

Our evening prayer service starts at 5pm and lasts 60 minutes. No childcare is provided during the evening service. We meet at Lutheran Church of the Savior (426 Davis Road, Bedford, MA 01730). During this time we share personal and ministry updates in the life of the church, pray in response to those requests, sing together, and hear a short devotional message from a member or elder.

If the morning service is the main time that we feed upon God’s word, the one-hour evening service is the main “family time.” During this service, the main focus is updating one another on our lives and ministry opportunities, sharing our burdens, and praying together. It’s kind of like a church-wide community group! To use a different analogy, it’s like a weekly family reunion.

Therefore, it feels very different than the morning service. That is, a less formal, more familiar, relaxed, familial, and burden-sharing feel to it. We’re spending time together as brothers and sisters, and that kind of brotherly and sisterly love should be evident.

Then, at 6:15pm, we share a meal together. If you have to leave right after service, that’s no problem. But we cater a meal on Sunday evenings specifically to allow newcomers and members alike to share a meal together and enjoy fellowship with one another. This is where you really get to see “the church as family” in action!
